Opaque Hold Ups UK Guide to Raceday Style

Opaque Hold Ups
There are two main seasons for racing in the UK: Spring, which runs from March until May, and Autumn, which runs from October to November.  Serious racegoers will start planning their outfit, months in advance, especially if they are attending on Ladies Day where points are awarded for thought gone into the outfit and covering recent trends. However, race dressing in the UK can be a little difficult, as the weather tends to let us down and it can be quite cold and drizzly and cold weather occasion dressing is not as easy as warm weather occasion dressing is. As retailers of opaque hold-ups UK though, we are well versed in this type of dressing, and so have pulled together some tips to help you out.

Dress Warmly

Sounds simple, but the best way to stay warm while still looking stylish is to choose a dress which has a high neck and long sleeves. This will be perfect for keeping your upper body warm. You can be a little more flexible with your hemline though as the addition of some footless stockings UK means that you don’t have to go floor-length, you can wear something that stops at the knee. In terms of fabric, you should look at dresses made from some percentage of wool, and something that is lined or heavily woven is also suitable. We are not saying you should wear a polo neck knitted number, although these can look quite chic, you can still find stunning dresses that are a little more practical for the cooler weather.

Think Outside the Box

You don’t necessarily have to wear a dress to the races, so why not think about wearing a chic jumpsuit or fabulously tailored pants instead? You can opt for either something really skinny or a trendy wide leg style – both will look fabulous paired with some closed toe heels and a stylish jacket. This is a great way to stay warm while looking super sophisticated as well.

Layer up

There are some really fabulous coats and jackets out there, which will not only add a touch of style to your outfit but can keep you warm and dry as well. A trench coat is a classic item that you probably have in your wardrobe, and it will always look stylish whatever you pair it with. Another option is faux fur – this is really on trend at the moment and can look so glamorous for the races. There are also some fabulous statement coats out there, that you could even make the centrepiece of your look, building the rest of the outfit around them.

Dress Wisely

Don’t forget your legs as well. The perfect way to be able to wear a summer dress to the races is to pair it with some footless stockings.  This way you not only keep your legs warm, but you stay chic and fashionable as well. We have a fantastic selection here at FashionLegs, including some beautiful cut out styles as well.

Shoe Smart

When it comes to race day dressing in the cold, your shoes or boots should always be a closed toe style – freezing cold toes are never attractive! You could even base your outfit around some over the knee boots and a long coat – this can look very feminine and chic.

Hats Off

You can’t mention raceday style without thinking about hats, as this is one of the only occasions in your life when wearing a hat is not an option but a necessity.  A lot of people have hats in their everyday wardrobe now, so it can be easy to just repurpose one for the sake of the race outing – such as the felt fedora. These hats are seen everywhere at the moment and are great for racing as they not only keep your head warm, but they also keep in with tradition as well. Another stylish option is the turban, which is perfect for keeping you warm as everyone knows that the most heat that is lost from a body is through the head! The other benefit of a turban is that you don’t have to spend lots of money on your hair, just tuck it up into the turban and you are good to go.

Accessories

Layer up your look with some fabulous accessories as well, as these can really help you to stay warm. Think about some luscious leather gloves, a stylish cashmere or faux fur scarf. Gloves will definitely be needed anyway, as you will no doubt have an ice cold drink in your hand at some point!
